Daniel Eugene “ Rudy “ Ruettiger ( born August 23, 1948 ) is a motivational speaker and generator who played college football at the University of Notre Dame. His early life and career at Notre Dame were the inspiration for the 1993 movie Rudy .

Daniel Eugene Ruettiger ( nicknamed “ Rudy ” ) was the third gear of fourteen children. He was born on August 23, 1948, in Joliet, Illinois, where he grew up with his german american family. On October 14, 2005, Ruettiger was the master of ceremonies at a pep muster for Notre Dame Football. Ruettiger received an honorary doctor’s degree degree from Our dame of Holy Cross College and Long Island University.
